Safeguarding

We all have a statutory duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, and at our school we take this responsibility very seriously.

If you have any concerns about a child or young person in our school, you must share this information immediately with one of our Designated Safeguarding Leads.

Do not think that your worry is insignificant if it is about hygiene, appearance or behaviour – we would rather you told us as we would rather know about something that appears small than miss a worrying situation.

If you think the matter is very serious and may be related to child protection, for example, physical, emotional, sexual abuse or neglect, please ask to speak to member of staff confidentially,  you  will then be asked to provide them with a written record of your concern. A copy of the form to complete can be obtained from the school office. Please ensure you complete all sections as described.

All of our Schools are part of the 'Operation Encompass' which is a joint operation between Norfolk County Council, Norfolk Police and Schools. It has been set up to help schools provide support to children who have been present at incidents of domestic abuse and violence. The school will receive a confidential phone call from Norfolk Children's Advice and Duty Service on or before 9am after an domestic incident which Norfolk Police have recorded has taken place where children have been present or witness to. This call will be taken by one of our Designated Leads or Alternative Designated Leads who have all received appropriate training.

Staff have clear guidelines and regular training to ensure they all know what to do to keep children safe. All staff have access to a computer so that they can record on CURA any incidents or disclosures and the senior leaders have an overview of all the information about the children. Everyone is responsible for every child and every child matters. 

Senior leaders have written a comprehensive safeguarding action plan which addresses issues arising from the SEF or internal and external monitoring. The plan is reviewed every term by senior staff and the safeguarding governor. 

Senior leaders meet on a fortnightly basis to discuss issues regarding individual children, what action needs to be taken and outcomes of actions. Heads of school are responsible for ensuring CURA information is up to date and resolutions are complete.

The Single Central Record is up-to-date and monitored termly. 

Staff have built strong relationships and trust with the families who need support and they go out of their way to provide help and advice. 

Staff are very passionate about the care of every child and provide the best possible care they can. 

Governors are kept informed about safeguarding through monitoring reports and regular items on the agenda at meetings.

Our Executive Headteacher, Mrs Anne Neary and SENDCO, Mrs Emma Spaul are also trained Designated Safeguarding Leads and have been trained to take Operation Encompass calls. 

Any allegation concerning a member of staff, a child’s foster carer or a volunteer should be reported immediately to the Headteacher. If an allegation is made about the Headteacher you should pass this information to the Chair of the Governing Body.
